28th June 2016. Bishop Norman will visited St Martin's to discuss the background to the necessary procedures that we have to adopt in order to maintain our position that the sacramental and pastoral ministry of our parish is exercised by male bishops and by male priests ordained by such bishops. This is a very important matter on which the PCC must vote later in the summer. The responsibility for parish decision making rests with the PCC but in order to promote the unity of the parish it is thought to be helpful for PCC members to understand the broader theological convictions of the congregation so that we can all continue to worship together with integrity.
Your PCC encourages members of the congregation to feel free to discuss the situation with as many PCC members as possible, and to let them know your views regarding this matter. The PCC will have to make its own decision, by a majority vote, and in the best interests of the parish as a whole.
Before speaking to us on that topic, Bishop Norman led a short service to bless the ministry of the recently enlarged ministry team. He then blessed all those who were a wider part of the ministry at St Martins, which was of course all of those who were present who in small or large ways contribute to the church family.
